Summer Field Studies

Hands-on scientific study for high school and college age students

Our Summer Field Studies will be once-in-a-lifetime summer experience for high school and college students looking for an extended learning opportunity with internship potential.

River Bend Farm is home to a variety of natural communities, providing abundant resources for meaningful discovery and research. Through connecting young adults to opportunities for investigation and encouraging them to follow their inquisitive musings, our overnight Summer Field Studies program facilitates participate-led research projects and field studies. Skills of scientific observation and data collection, utilizing a variety of tools, will be guided by The Ecology School staff and organizational partners.

Participants will learn about the diversity in Maine’s ecosystems through daily explorations and spend time in the agricultural fields at River Bend Farm, incorporating food systems connections into holistic environmental concepts. This is a unique chance to develop critical professional skills at a resume-building summer program while having an unforgettable time connecting to community and nature on a farm in coastal Maine.

Participants will be treated to farm-fresh, local, and nutritious foods during family-style meals, and comfortable accommodations during rest hours, housed in our new Living Building dining commons and dormitory.
