The Ecology School Partners with Maine Adaptive Outdoor Education Center

Did you know that 1 in 10 people in Maine have an intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disability? Brunswick-based Maine Adaptive Outdoor Education Center (MAOEC) works with individuals with all kinds of abilities by providing programs and access to adaptive sports and community-based activities to participants and their friends and families.

Last month, The Ecology School’s Program Team led a "day at summer camp" for folks at MAOEC, offering options like arts and crafts, open discovery games, and exploration on their forest trails at their Brunswick campus. Director of Educational Partnerships Meg, Ecology Educators Chloe & Ciara, and Program Coordinator Julia helped participants make friendship bracelets, create watercolor paintings, build gnome homes, and engage in scavenger hunts outside. Our "camp counselors" spent a beautiful day on MAOEC's gorgeous campus getting to know the "campers" and helping folks engage in options that sparked their interest and brought some summer camp joy to the Center and an awesome group of participants.
